01 · THE PROBLEM

A cleaner photo shouldn’t mean a different car.

Used-car listing photography has a real problem: harsh light, cluttered forecourts, traffic cones and wheelie bins in shot. The current generation of AI photo tools solves it by generating a new image — and a generative model, given a car, will happily tidy up a scuffed bumper or invent a wheel it thinks looks better.

That is a problem for you, not just the buyer. A photo that no longer matches the metal on your forecourt is a misdescribed vehicle in an advert. Podiar takes the other route: cut the real car out, place it in a room we rendered ourselves, and leave every pixel of the vehicle alone.

02 · THE PIPELINE

Six steps, and none of them invent a car.

Here is the whole thing, in order. Every step is deterministic: the same photo and the same look produce the same output today, next week and next year.

01· CAPTURE

Walk a 45° orbit. The phone does the steering.

Eight exterior angles, plus interior and detail shots. A traced silhouette for your car’s body class sits over the viewfinder, and the phone reads its own pose to tell you to step closer, step back, raise or lower. Hold it steady for three seconds and it fires on its own — though the manual shutter never stops working.

No signal on the forecourt? Shoot anyway.

The guide silhouettes are bundled into the app, not fetched, so they draw instantly with no connection at all. Photos that fail to upload queue on the device and drain in order the moment you are back on a network. You can review a car before a single byte has reached us.

03· REDACT

The number plate goes first.

Before anything else touches the image, the plate is found and dealt with — either blurred, or replaced with a UK-style reflective plate carrying your dealership’s name. It runs on the source photo, so no downstream step ever sees the registration.

The car is separated. Nothing about it is redrawn.

We isolate the vehicle from the forecourt behind it and keep those pixels intact. This is a cut, not a regeneration: the paint, the panel gaps, the kerbed alloy and the angle you shot from all survive the step exactly as photographed.

05· RENDER

A room is rendered to match your shot.

Not a prompt, and not a stock backdrop. Blender renders a room from the look you picked, built for the camera pose of the capture in hand, with your dealership’s name as raised lettering on the wall. Pick the same look tomorrow and you get the same room, to the pixel.

Grounded with shadow, reflection and glazing.

The car is placed so its near tyres sit inside the floor turntable, then given a contact shadow, a wall shadow and a floor reflection — all deterministic image operations, all reproducible. Six automated quality gates inspect the result, including one that checks the vehicle’s own pixels were preserved.

03 · THE ROOMS

The rooms are ours. The car stays yours.

Ask a generative model for “a white studio” and you get a slightly different white studio on every photo — the floor tone shifts, the ceiling moves, the reflections disagree. Ours come from a fixed 3D specification, so the same look renders identically on every car, every angle, every month. A stock list reads as one showroom rather than forty near-misses.

The room is built to match the camera pose of the photo in hand, then your car is cut from the forecourt and grounded in it with a contact shadow, a wall shadow and a floor reflection. Nothing about the vehicle is redrawn at any point.

How a room is built

04 · A ROOM OF YOUR OWN

Everyone else hands every dealer the same backdrop. We build you a room.

The looks above are the shared library — any account can use them, and for most dealers they are more than enough. Above that is the thing a library of stock backgrounds cannot do: we design and render a showroom for your dealership alone, and issue it to you.

We build it. You do not.

There is no room designer to learn and nothing to configure. You tell us the showroom you want your stock standing in — the walls, the floor, the light, the mood of your brand — and our team authors the room, renders it and puts it in your account.

It is issued to you, not to the library.

A room built for your dealership is yours. It does not join the shared set that every account can pick from, which means the dealer down the road cannot list their cars in the same room as yours — because they cannot reach it.

And it never drifts.

Your room is a fixed 3D specification, not a prompt. It renders the same on the first car and the four-hundredth, at every angle, for as long as you are with us. Consistency is the whole point of having a room of your own.

Every room you scrolled through above was made this way: a room design written by hand, rendered in Blender, inspected, and released into the product. It is craft work, and it takes us a while. A bespoke room is the same job, done once, for one dealership — which is why it sits where the set-up is already done by us rather than on a self-serve plan.

05 · AFTER THE PHOTO

A dealer dashboard, not a promise of one.

Dealer inventory photos are only useful once they are attached to a car, a price and a buyer. Podiar carries them that far: stock, vehicle detail, leads, team and billing all live in the same place as the images.

We will also tell you plainly what we don’t do yet — there is no marketplace publishing and no CRM sync today, and the integrations page says so rather than showing you a wall of logos.

Four things Podiar will never do to a car you photograph.

This is not a policy we could quietly drop in a release. Generative editing of the source vehicle’s pixels is prohibited in our default listing pipeline by the first principle of our engineering constitution — the document every change to the codebase is reviewed against.

06 · WHY THIS, NOT THAT

Six things that are true of Podiar today.

No customer counts, no case studies, no percentages. We haven’t launched yet, so anything of that shape would be invented. These are properties of the software you can check.

The car in the advert is the car on the lot.

Every other tool in this category is generative, which means it can quietly alter the vehicle. Ours structurally cannot in the default pipeline — and one of our automated quality gates exists specifically to check that the vehicle’s pixels came through unchanged.

The same room, every single time.

Our rooms are rendered in Blender from a fixed specification, not sampled from a diffusion model. A twelve-car gallery looks like twelve cars in one showroom, instead of twelve slightly different showrooms.

Guided capture that works on a real forecourt.

The phone reads its own pose and steers you around a 45° orbit, with a traced silhouette for the body class you are shooting. Auto-capture fires after a three-second steady hold, and the manual shutter never stops working.

No signal, no problem.

Guide overlays are bundled into the app rather than fetched, so they draw with no connection. Uploads that fail queue on the device and drain in order when you are back on a network.

UK number plates, UK vehicle lookup by registration, and trade, retail, private and part-exchange valuations in sterling. Most tools in this space are built for a US or Indian market and treat the UK as an afterthought.

Tenant isolation at the database, not in a filter.

PostgreSQL row-level security is enabled on every business table, verified by an automated policy gate in our test suite, alongside an append-only audit log. If you run more than one site, your data does not depend on somebody remembering a WHERE clause.

07 · THREE WAYS TO DO THIS

Generate it, retouch it, or preserve it.

There are three honest approaches to automotive photo editing. A generative tool makes a new image and is fast but free to change the car. A retoucher edits by hand and is faithful but slow and expensive. We built the third: fast, and structurally unable to alter the vehicle.
